Celebrating Black History Month: WJHA student paves the way for her brothers

The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy (WJHA) gives underserved youth the opportunity to learn hockey while increasing their connection to school and their community, and the Yonas family has truly thrived in the program. Canari first learned how to play hockey when she joined the WJHA in Grade 3, and inspired by their older sister, her brothers Esron and Kebron followed in her footsteps. An incredible student and talented hockey player, Canari’s hard work, kindness, and determination has paved the way for her brothers, proving that representation and mentorship can shape the future.
